About Trish Williams
I am the filmmaker for Losing
Tom, as well as the writer and webmaster for the Losing
Tom web site. I began the film Losing
Tom around 1997 and completed the final cut in 2000
as my thesis project for graduate school. I decided
to do a creative project instead of
a traditional written thesis, because it interested
me more and I have always worked in creative fields.
The web site became the medium for
the academic supporting material, as well as the
medium that enables people all around the world to
access my web site, discover my film
and have direct interaction with me.
I have always
made films since I was in high school, starting with
super 8 films, and moving to vhs video and now non-linear
video production. By profession I am a webmaster,
currently working at Ramapo College in New Jersey.
Prior to working in web site
production,
I worked doing publication design and photography
for the Ramapo College of New Jersey. I also teach
as an adjunct professor at Ramapo College.
My undergraduate degree is a BA in Fine Arts/Visual
Arts with a focus in photography, and I also have
a Master of Arts in
Liberal Studies.
This project was one of the best
things I have done, because it connected a personal
experiences, through the medium of film, in a way that
others can connect with on common
levels. The theme of
alcoholism is universal, and it's exciting when
I
have people from all places contacting me. Through
losingtom.org I have discovered that my
work on this film and web site has helped other
people in similar circumstances or those looking for
resources.
I live in Northern New Jersey with my teenage son, boyfriend,
cats and dogs. I have two sisters (one
in NJ) and my Mom who lives nearby.
